Book Blocks for home binding

These are part made books, awaiting completion. They are machine sewn. They are sometimes trimmed. They sometimes have the backs glued and taped. Invariably they require covers, and normally end papers.

Plain books are suitable as journals or notebooks. Printed book blocks are sometimes available as diaries, address books, or guest books.

Book blocks are often claimed to "open flat", and they usually do open more easily unencumbered by the glue on the spine. This property may be lost on completion of the binding ~ for example if a thick layer of backing paper and glue is applied. Flat opening is one mark of a good bookbinder ~ so here is a challenge.

Correct attention to grain is another key ingredient of layflat opening. We sell a number of papers as folios or in cross-grain formats for your own folding.
