Paring knife ~ Chinese style ~ symmetrical curve and faces
Paring knife ~ symmetrical curved blade ~ symmetrically ground faces
All knives are ground and sharpened before leaving the factory. Expert users will need to hone, strop, and polish the blade ~ the final stages of the ultimate sharpening process ~ sometimes named 'scary sharpening'.
The blades may be covered with a smear of light grease which will need to be removed. As with all tool steels they may appear "stainless" and "rustproof" ~ but they are not marketed as such and they do need to be kept clean and dry.
Final honing and sharpening on leather strops and fine grit stones is fairly easy ~ once the skill of maintaining the correct and various angles has been acquired ~ which can take years. Re-grinding is not advised for the unskilled or those lacking knowledge of tool steel. A split second of grinding on a non-water-bath electric grinder will ruin the temper of the blade for ever. Straight edged paring knives ~ English style ~ are preferred by many users ~ they are easier to hone and sharpen.
This knife is supplied with a handy canvas-type of carry-bag ~ useful for protection when rummaging in a toolbag. We would not advise carrying it around (even sheathed) on your person ~ because of possible self harm and also it will lead to confiscation by the operators of any metal-detecting safety apparatus.
